Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has proposed to the Milli Mejlis [parliament] increasing the maximum administrative detention from 15 days to 2 months. Administrative detention is a sentence often handed down to protest participants and opposition activists, but can be given for other infractions including drunk driving and vehicular hooliganism. 

Musavat Party Youth Committee Chairperson Tural Abbasli’s 600 AZN fine from the January 12 “End Soldiers’ Deaths” was replaced with 220 hours of labor by the Nasimi District Court today. 

Forensic analysis found no evidence of drug use by jailed Popular Fount activist Dashgin Melikov, according to Melikov's lawyer. Melikov is in pretrial detention and is charged with possession of a narcotic. 

Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety photographer and video producer Mehman Husenyov was interrogated for 4.5 hours by the Prosecutor General’s office on Thursday about the case of 7 jailed NIDA activists facing weapons and drugs charges. Huseynov's relation to the case is unclear as he is not affiliated with NIDA.

Both Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Nakhchivan Autonomous Region Chief Vasif Talibov have been included on Reporters Without Borders’ recently released Enemies of the Press list.
