Statement about recents arrests

I and also N!DA Civic Movement considers the arrests of its members as a repression against the organization.

On April 1, 2013 the project coordinator of the NIDA Movement, Zaur Gurbanli, was arrested and taken to the Severe Crimes Investigation Department and was charged under the Article 228.3 (illegal possession of explosives in an organized group.). The Nasimi district court sentenced Gurbanli for three months of pre-trial custody.

NIDA Civic Movement considers the intensity of repression in the last few days as a clear attack against us.

We declare that these incidents have objected to destroy NIDA and generally it is an attempt to stifle the youth’s protest movement.

We state that the charges against our members are absolutely unsubstantiated and demand to stop the practice of detaining young people.

Arrests do not delay the process and conversely, more people join the organization every day. N!DA is supported by different stratas of the society, especially young people.

Those willing to destroy our organization will never succeed.

Our struggle for democratization of our country will continue

The authorities are openly hostile against us. These incidents will not affect our activity. Nida will continue to be vanguard of protest youth.

At present, seven NIDA Movement activists – Mammad Azizov, Bakhtiyar Guliyev, Shahin Novruzlu, Rashad Hasanov, Rashadat Akhundov, Uzeyir Mammadli and Zaur Gurbanli are in prison.
